Still due to traditional thoughts and belief women are taken as secondary citizen of the country. Women, who are the main support of family are behind education and need to be financially dependent. Thus, with the objective of making women aware and also to support the goal of Government to make Kathmandu 100% literate zone, Himshikhara started two literacy classes in Hadigaun and Mitrapark on collaboration with Tri Shakti Club and Gyan Jyoti School.More than 50 women are being directly benefited from this program where women are learning to at least read and write. HISCUS has been also organizing different program targeting the women empowerment like recently HISCUS organized program entitled Awareness on Menstrual Hygiene and Sanitary Napkins Making Training to various women group on the occasion of Menstrual Hygiene Day at Kritipur. It was a collaborative program with Sakriya Sewa Samaj. 50 Women were benefited through this program where participants learned about the good Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) practices and also learned to make Sanitary Napkins. Also organic waste management training was conducted at Gyan Jyoti Community Learning Center by Himshikhara Socio Cultural Society. The training equipped the skills of reusing plastic into usable key rings. At the end of the program women made some beautiful key rings which can also be the source of income to them.
